About Kate Jones

My art is symbolic of an intention resonating in each painting. While working as a Feng Shui consultant I became aware of using the power of intention to move people closer to their purpose or truth.

The art of Sumi uses the spirit of nature to symbolize an image and give it energy. Each painting captures this spiritual essence and defines an intention which opens the possibilities and expands awareness.

It is my honor to create a meditative space or “Tokonoma” in ones home to be honored. I persuade all clients to choose an image that expresses their intended path in life.

Scrolls

My scrolls are a modern approach to an ancient art.  Instead of mounting the rice paper painting onto silk, I have discovered a way to mount the painting onto canvas.  This is so practical because you have a canvas frame that gives you the look of a scroll but it is much more strong, sturdy and durable for the hanging and preservation of the piece and no maintenance is needed. They are light weight and easy to hang. Many of my clients have me deliver the painting and help them to install it securely as well as enjoy my input on intentions and the meaningful significance of the piece.

As an interior designer and a Feng Shui consultant I have noticed that clients have a hard time finding art work for crucial spaces in their homes or offices.

These pieces create a special space held in reverence to your wishes.

The horizontal scrolls are 20”by 60” with a depth of 1½”.  They work well over beds, couches, mantles, dinning tables, buffets, benches and credenzas.

I have even used them as an art gallery down long hallways.  They take up space and are enjoyed as you walk past them.  This makes that walk pleasant and not so tiring.  Their openness and reflection of nature make them appear as a window or doorway to the outdoors. They brighten rooms without windows and act as a focal point to the spaces.

The vertical scrolls work well at the end of hallways, or across from a doorway that meets a wall.  When you walk out that doorway you get a feeling of entering another delightful space instead of meeting a dead end wall.  They are also wonderful at hiding infrequently used doors. I have painted the door a color then mounted a scroll on it and the impression is a large art piece instead of a distracting door. I love to use them in vestibules or entryways. The idea of an entry is to “entrance” people and let them know who you are.  This is a very important space to make a strong statement about your home life or your business. Remember first impressions are the most important.

My favorite use of the scrolls is to set up a meditational space where you can obtain some peace and quiet time when needed.  If you do not have a special meditation room they work well next to sitting areas or work spaces in office rooms.   One quick look and you are reminded of your intention or connection with nature or image.

Framed Art

I do not use a paper mat when framing my pieces.  I am using a technique of reverse glass painting as my mat for the picture.  This gives the painting a depth and a blast of color.  I vary many techniques to get textures that balance the frame and pictures. On longer pieces it is easy to use different widths and strips of color to retain a scroll effect.

Recycled Art

I am appalled at what people consider waste and throw away so I came up with an idea to reuse these objects in a creative way to make shrines or meditation stations.  Not only am I able to help save the environment but I am also challenging myself to be especially creative and innovative.

The idea is not to use chemical processes to restore but to give a product a new purpose and a new beauty that enhances one’s lifestyle.
